Pathological Illustration:

Ovarian Teratoma

A rare medical mystery

This project integrates conceptual illustration with temporal processes across various biological scales (including cellular, tissue, and organ levels).  I chose to illustrate a topic I find vastly misrepresented in accessible media: the teratoma.

Teratomas are a rare and graphic pathology, and most widely accessible information sources about them are rife with sensationalism and misinformation. During my research, I encountered numerous AI-generated images which grossly misportrayed these tumors. I wanted to develop a scientifically accurate and visually striking resource about this condition that would be accessible at an educated lay public's reading level.

This spread realistically follows the development of a benign ovarian teratoma and balances truth with intrigue. Article content was verified by pathologist Dr. John Wong at UofT.
